Optional Pre-Symposium Tours

Care in the Air is offering two pre-symposium tours on Thursday, April 30, 2026:

The Canadian Forces Environmental Medicine Establishment tour will be a repeat of the 2025 tour for those who were unable to attend last year.

Ornge Toronto Island Helicopter Base Tour

Join Ornge at their Toronto Island Helicopter Base for a tour of the facility and to observe a medical simulation of acute care in the confined space of a helicopter air ambulance. Join us for an opportunity to learn about the aviation aspects of flying a Leonardo 139 Helicopter on air ambulance missions and meet the pilots as well as learn about the clinical skills and specialized equipment required to manage critically ill patients in the confined space of an air ambulance.

Canadian Forces Environmental Medicine Establishment Tour

This escorted tour will feature visits to unique experimentation facilities such as a human centrifuge, hypobaric and dive chambers, thermal chamber, aerospace group, and the CANadian Load Effects Assessment Program (CAN LEAP) mobility course and more. The deadline to register for the tour is Wednesday, April 1, 2026 to ensure the security team has sufficient processing time.

Further arrival instructions will be provided closer to the tour date.

Since this is a secure facility, participants of this tour agree to the following requirements:

  1. Visitors will be escorted at all times by CFEME/DRDC staff members; visitors will not be left alone. Proper handover will occur at pick-up/drop-off points.
  2. There will be no access to any Security Zones or areas where sensitive work is being conducted and there will be no exposure to protected/classified information or controlled goods.
  3. All visitors will sign in at the Cmre GH and will be issued escorted visitor badges for ease of identification.
  4. No backpacks will be permitted unless searched in advance.
  5. A list of all names will be provided to the RDSO, and if necessary the local Military Police Unit (MPU) and the nearest detachment of the Canadian Forces National Counter-Intelligence Unit (CFNCIU).
  6. No electronic devices will be permitted while on DRDC premises, to include smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, audio or video recording devices and cameras.
