Kanwal received his PhD from McMaster University, and his research focused on the biochemistry and structural biology of clotting proteins. He pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Beckett at St. Michael’s Hospital focusing on prehospital medicine, blood products, and developing new hemostats. In his current role as a Defence Scientist with Defence Research and Development Canada and an Affiliate Scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital, his research continues to focus on advancing prehospital medicine in both civilian and military settings. In addition to his research contributions, Kanwal is a reserve medic with the Canadian Armed Forces.
